Die Akustik der Geigenstimme
Die entscheidende Rolle des Set-ups für den Klang der Streichinstrumente steht außer Frage. Aber welche Veränderungen haben welchen Einfluss? Meinungen gibt es dazu viele aber objektive, wissenschaftlich ermittelte Ergebnisse sind oft schwer greifbar.
In früheren Workshop (November 2023, März 2025) wurden die akustischen Grundlagen sowie der aktuelle wissenschaftliche Stand als Grundlage für die weiteren Vorhaben vermittelt. Dieses Wissen wurde in der Auseinandersetzung mit der Akustik des Geigenstegs angewandt und vertieft. Der Workshop 2026 knüpft zwar in vielen Bereichen an dieses Know-how an, setzt es jedoch nicht zwingend voraus. Neue Teilnehmer haben die Möglichkeit, sich die Inhalte vorab im Videoformat anzusehen.
Am Beispiel der Geigenstimme werden in diesem Workshop die Möglichkeiten zur Klangeinstellung objektiv untersucht. Gleichzeitig wird den Teilnehmern ermöglicht, ihre subjektive Wahrnehmung mit den objektiven Messergebnissen in Verbindung zu bringen. Die benötigten Softwarelösungen sind frei verfügbar, sodass die Teilnehmer einen geschlossenen Arbeitsablauf lernen und nach dem Workshop anwenden können.
Zwei Ausführungen des dazu benötigten Equipments werden im Workshop verwendet. Der von Joseph Curtin entwickelte Messplatz mit professioneller Messtechnik (Kostenpunkt ca. 6000 €) und eine einfachere und günstige (ca. 100 €) Alternative. Alle Messungen werden mit der von Chris Rogers entwickelten und frei verfügbaren ObieApp durchgeführt.
Luca Jost ist Geigenbaumeister und Promotionsstudent an der Technischen Universität Dresden in Kooperation mit der Westsächsischen Hochschule Zwickau. Er hat Streichinstrumentenbau, sowie Akustik und Technologie des Musikinstrumentenbaus in Markneukirchen studiert. In seinem Promotionsprojekt untersucht er die Zusammenhänge baulicher Eigenschaften, akustischer Messungen und Hörwahrnehmung für den Fall der Violine auf experimentelle Art und Weise. Er ist Mitglied der Oberlin und Villefavard Akustik Workshops, bei denen er maßgeblich zu experimentellen Untersuchungen der akustischen Funktion der Violine beiträgt.
Die Workshops finden dreisprachig statt (deutsch, englisch, italienisch). In der Buchung sind die Unterkunft und die Verpflegung enthalten. Die Werkstatt kann rund um die Uhr genutzt werden.

Acoustics of the sound post
The crucial role of setup for the sound of string instruments is beyond question. But which changes have which influence? There are many opinions on this, but objective, scientifically determined results are often elusive.
In previous workshops (November 2023 and March 2025), the acoustic fundamentals and the current state of scientific knowledge were presented as a basis for future projects. This knowledge was applied and further developed by assessing the acoustic function of the violin bridge. While the 2026 workshop builds on this know-how in many areas, it is not a prerequisite. New participants have the opportunity to view the content in advance in video format.
Using the violin soundpost as an example, this workshop will explore the possibility of sound adjustment in an objective manner. At the same time, participants have the opportunity to weigh their subjective perception against the objective measurement results. The required software solutions are freely available, so participants can learn a closed workflow and apply it after the workshop.
Two versions of the required equipment will be used in the workshop. The measurement setup developed by Joseph Curtin with professional measuring technology (cost approximately €6,000) and a simpler and less costly alternative (approximately €100). All measurements will be performed using the freely available ObieApp developed by Chris Rogers.
Luca Jost is a master violin maker and doctoral student at the Technical University of Dresden in cooperation with the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau. He studied string instrument making, as well as acoustics and technology of musical instrument making in Markneukirchen. In his doctoral project, he is experimentally investigating the relationships between structural properties, acoustic measurements and auditory perception for the violin. He is a member of the Oberlin and Villefavard acoustics workshops, where he makes a significant contribution to experimental investigations into the acoustic function of the violin.
The workshops are held in three languages (German, English, Italian). Accommodation and meals are included in the booking. The workshop can be used around the clock.

L’acustica dell‘ anima del violino
È indubbio che l’impostazione abbia un ruolo cruciale nel riprodurre il suono degli strumenti a corda. Ma quali cambiamenti hanno quale impatto? Esistono molte opinioni in merito, ma i risultati oggettivi e scientificamente determinati sono spesso difficili da cogliere. Nei workshop precedenti (novembre 2023, marzo 2025) sono stati presentati i fondamenti acustici e lo stato attuale della scienza come base per ulteriori progetti. Il workshop del 2026 si basa su queste conoscenze in molti ambiti, ma non le richiede necessariamente. I nuovi partecipanti hanno la possibilità di visionare in anticipo i contenuti in formato video.
Con l’esempio della voce del violino, in questo workshop vengono esplorate oggettivamente le possibilità di regolazione del suono. Allo stesso tempo, ai partecipanti viene data la possibilità di mettere in relazione la loro percezione soggettiva con i risultati delle misurazioni oggettive. Le soluzioni software necessarie sono liberamente disponibili, in modo che i partecipanti possano apprendere un flusso di lavoro chiuso e applicarlo dopo il workshop. Due versioni dell’equipaggiamento necessario verranno utilizzate nel workshop. Il banco di misurazione sviluppato da Joseph Curtin con tecnologia di misura professionale (costo circa 6000 €) e un’alternativa più semplice ed economica (circa 100 €). Tutte le misurazioni verranno effettuate utilizzando l’ObieApp, sviluppata da Chris Rogers e disponibile gratuitamente.
Luca Jost è un liutaio e dottorando presso l’Università Tecnica di Dresda in collaborazione con l’Università della Sassonia Occidentale di Zwickau. Ha studiato costruzione di strumenti a corda, nonché acustica e tecnologia della costruzione di strumenti musicali a Markneukirchen. Nel suo progetto di dottorato indaga sperimentalmente le connessioni tra proprietà strutturali, misurazioni acustiche e percezione uditiva nel caso del violino. È membro dei Workshop di Acustica di Oberlin e Villefavard, dove contribuisce in modo significativo agli studi sperimentali sulla funzione acustica del violino.
I workshop si svolgono in tre lingue (tedesco, inglese, italiano). La prenotazione comprende vitto e alloggio. La bottega può essere utilizzata 24 ore su 24.
